Drowning Ruth

The story centers on the Starkey family in the aftermath of World War I. When Amanda Starkey, a nurse overwhelmed by the trauma of the Great War, returns to her family’s farm on Nagawaukee Lake to seek refuge with her sister, Mathilda, and her young niece, Ruth, she finds that she cannot escape her own past. A tragic, mysterious night on the frozen lake leads to Mathilda's death, leaving Amanda to raise Ruth under a shroud of dark family secrets.
